THE HALLOWEEN IS NOT COSTARRICAN

SOMETHING ELSE ABOUT CHILDREN PROSTITUTION

What an embarrassment and how sad are the reports about children prostitution

in Costa Rica! Bad publicity for a country that has a great biological

diversity for the local and international tourism. Costa Rica has the Poás

volcano with the widest crater in the world and upset social problems. A

tour guide shows the architecture, museums, parks, historical places in the

capital city ... and minors in prostitution show and offer themselves without

any guide. Some foreigners had asked us if the government knows about this

situation and doesn't care about it. The answer is unknown.

There are people who blame the juridical system because of the existence of

the working-street-kids...the future of the country. Some people say this

problem has to be solved by the Government. Others express that the problem

shall be solved by the religion. Another's think that the education is the

base of the problem. As always, the blame turns into a soccer ball in the

middle of a game that comes and goes. A lot of arguments to find out who is

guilty and we don't see how does the problem grows up more.

The reality is that the Family Law appoints the parents like the responsible

ones to take care of, raise and educate the minors. Then, according with the

law, the minor prostitution problem starts at home. The education, religion,

moral and family values that some kids receive at home, are turned into the

evil, vices and bad actions. There are children prostituting themselves in

the streets and ... where are their parents?

Sometimes I ask myself how many children are there in the lowest part of the

Costarrican society. If all of them would be picked up, how many would be

the total? Isn't it possible to take them out from their houses and give

them real homes where they shall learn about the moral, family and civic

values? Sadly, some people had told me if it would happened, the

irresponsible parents would bring more children to this world and would teach

them what a child shouldn't learn about. Then … there is no way José to

erase this bad fame in Costa Rica.
