OUR WINTER AND SUMMER

          Costa Rica is a small country between the North and South
Hemispheres, Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and has an interesting variable
geography that makes it an unique tropical paradise. Our Paradise. The
weather and temperatures are stable and nice all year round. The
temperature is between 50 - 70 F in the mountains and valleys and 75 - 85 F
in the coasts.

         There are only two seasons. The summer or dry season starts on
November and ends on April; nevertheless, the summer starts on October by
the Atlantic coast. There is an unique situation with November, December and
January's nights. They are the coolest of all because Costa Rica gets the
cold breezes from the USA mountains. The "winter" or better called rainy
season starts on May and ends on October. Believe or not, you get sunny
mornings and rainy afternoons during the winter. So, you can build during
the winter! Since the 90's, "El Niño" atmospherical phenomenon is been
affecting the weather and we get hotter and longer summers.

     Different turtle species come to Costa Rica during the winter for
reproduction purposes.

     You can surf in Costa Rica all year no matter it is winter.

     Between June and July, there is a mini summer called Saint John's
little summer because it always happens during Saint John's Day. How would
you like to have a summer brake during the winter?

     Some fruits and vegetables are available all year because of the
weather. Others, are seasonal.

     Public schools finish their classes by the middle of November when it
is time for the coffee harvest; so, some kids can help their families with
this job. The school vacation used to end by the beginning of March when the
coffee harvest finished. Nowadays, classes begin by the middle of February.

     Other Costarricans, take a short vacation during this period. The local
tourists plus the "winter birds" sometimes make it difficult to get a hotel
room. Advice, always do your reservations on time and check the prices for
winter and summer because they may change.

     December is the wedding month. The beaches are the most favorite
destinations for the honeymoon.
