OUR ANCESTORS WHERE FOREIGNERS ALSO
We don't want to accept alien foreigners in our country but we accept to
change the traditional menu for food from other latitudes. We get angry if a
tourist doesn't speak Spanish very well, but we copy and ad estrange words
to our every day language; words that are not accepted by the Real Academia
Española de la Lengua (the institution that takes care of the Spanish
language). We pretend to be so nationalist, be more Catholic that the Pope,
but we don`t take care of our traditions as we should do. We prefer to use
imported products instead of our national products. We die to take a
vacation out of Costa Rica, like if there would not be beautiful options
here.
Costarricans, who were our ancestors? Spaniards, Italians, French, British,
Jews and other nationalities. The first ones conquered this land with a
sword on one hand and a cross on the other. Then, the other nationalities
came looking for new horizons over the years. Even nowadays, this country is
so prodigious and blessed, that new nationalities throw their anchor here
looking for a new future in prosperity, far from the sadness and misfortune
that they left behind in the land where they were born. We want to close
them the doors and we forget that our ancestors open themselves the doors,
fought against all kind of adversities, except the discrimination. We forget
an order God gave the Jews in the Old Testament: "treat well the foreigners
because you were foreigner in the land of Egypt".
